Really, Filipinos come up with the best ideas to never waste anything. It is evident in how they use all the parts of pork and beef for food or how they recycle plastic and tetra packs to make bags and boats. Filipinos also revolutionized warehousing in the Philippines in the same recycling context!
Especially in Marikina city, there has been a major revamp on how to use old and going-on forgotten warehouses. One such example is the Katipunan Prime Badminton Center. It’s basically an old warehouse turned badminton court and it’s the perfect type of type of building to use for a sport such as badminton.

Since badminton uses shuttlecocks which are very light weight, the different in direction of the wind blowing may drastically change the direction of game. Warehouses make for the perfect places to play badminton in because they let no draft in. The place is also conducive to making you sweat.
Some warehouses are still used for the purpose of storing items, equipment, and machinery. Given the shape of the warehouses that used to stand within Marikina City, some of them were turned into public basketball or sports courts with night lighting. Not only were old warehouses used as sports courts, their general structure were used as the format for future public courts although out the city.
It has been practiced ever since but warehouses are used as department stores as well. The Lachmi shopping mall in Davao is one example. Like in the case of Katipunan Prime, since the air does not blow well, this means that less air conditioning escapes from the compound making for a nicely ventilated and temperature controlled mall.

Warehouses make tons of possibilities considering the size of them. Abandoned ones aren’t big hunks of scrap metal waiting to be torn down; they are spaces waiting to be turned into something useful and fun. What other building do you think you can turn old warehouses into?
